Peter Weir :: Picnic at Hanging Rock
Folk horror, colonial order, liminal time and landscape as threshold
The films gathered here give landscape a working role: fields, islands, villages and interiors carry memory, ritual, labour and unease. Hwael follows cinema through sound, place and historical residue, from Malick and Tarkovsky to Shindō, Weir and Gladwell. Often the strangest thing is already there, embedded in the ordinary world.
